After discussing the theory we learned how to waltz (see the video below)! Our dance off champions are pictured to the right. Congrats to Ava W, Addie, Peyton, and Victoria! We pretended we were all royalty who had been invited to Elsa's coronation when we were waltzing. After snack we made trolls out of rocks and worked a little bit on our own stories. Day 4: Mulan
Today we learned all about Mulan. To start the day we learned about the Chinese New Year and practiced writing our names in Chinese. Next we walked to East Central Martial Arts in Pine City and learned some martial arts to defend any evil Hun armies we might face in life. The girls all loved learning self-defense skills and their favorite part was getting to kick the mats. Check out the slideshow below to see the girls in action. When we got back to our classroom we practiced using chopsticks, read our fortunes out of a fortune cookie, and then worked on developing the plots for our own stories.

Day 3: Moana
The Disney movie of the day today was Moana. We started class by learning about voyaging and way finding, which is the way Moana and her people lived and traveled from island to island. To see what it would be like to voyage we did an activity where we moved from island to island and had to work together in small groups to solve problems that arose. After that we completed a STEM challenge and each created a boat just like Moana had (though ours were a lot smaller and made out of popsicle sticks). Each student was really creative in how they designed and created their boats and no two boats looked the same. After snack we played "The Floor is Ta Ka" outside (Ta Ka is a lava monster in Moana) and then we started developing our characters for the stories we will be writing.
Reminders:
Reminders:
- Tomorrow we will be doing Karate so wear movable clothes.
- We will miss snack time tomorrow so students will be unable to buy from the snack shop. Please have them bring their own snack if they want to eat anything.

Day 2: Cars
Today we focused on the Cars series. We started the day by learning a bit about the movies and where they take place. We spent the majority of the day designing and building our own cars out of cardboard boxes. Everyone was really creative and detail orientated, which made for some impressive designs. We ended the day by having a car show and voting on which car was the best.
1st Place: Brianna and Ava A with "Infinity Cloud" (first photo Below with the blue car) 2nd Place: Victoria and Natalie with "Tow Mater" (second photo below with the brown car) |
Day 1
Today was amazing! Check out the pictures below. We started class by getting to know everyone and playing some get-to-know-you games. We then determined what our "Kids Choice" Movie of the Day will be and in a landslide vote Coco won. (Each day there is a movie of the day that we learn about.) We then designed and made crowns celebrating what makes each of us unique. After snack we voted on and designed our classroom decorations. Our room will feature an under the sea land, a castle and dragon, and an enchanted candy land forest. Please check out the letter below to learn more about some exciting things happening in class. A physical copy was sent home with each girl today.
